My Story

Hi! My name is Jena Brown and I am a wife, mom of four, and a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN). I am also an exercise enthusiast who is passionate about nutrition, health, and wellness.

As a structured and organized person, I set out to check off all my career ambitions. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2007, got married, completed my dietetic internship at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas, passed my registration exam, and accepted my first job. Needless to say, finding out I was pregnant three months after I got married was NOT part of the plan! Thankfully, God has a plan for us all. For me it was three more children, seven moves and years of homeschooling. I now have a very different perspective on life and how NUTRITION and a healthy lifestyle fits into the picture of real world living.

A healthy lifestyle is not a destination - it is a journey. My passion for exercise and nutrition has been a journey as well. The seeds of nutrition were planted before I even realized when I was in the third grade participating in the 4-H Food Show. To this day, I can recite "riboflavin helps cells use oxygen to release energy from food" in my sleep and I can see the words on that piece of paper. (I could NEVER remember that one!) Although I played team sports beginning in middle school my passion for exercise and its importance in a healthy lifestyle did not emerge until I gained my Freshman 30 (note: not Freshman 15) in college.

I started running, eating healthy, lost 40 pounds and ran my first half marathon in 2005. It was sheer determination, stubbornness and grace from God that helped me cross the finish line that very cold morning. It certainly wasn't my knowledge of sports nutrition! I thought that hydrating, fueling, and stopping for bathroom breaks would slow me down when actually they would have helped.

My love for exercise and endurance running has not ceased and I now run half marathons whenever I can fit them into my schedule. Now that I have integrated proper fueling my goal each race is to beat my own personal time. So far, I have improved my race time by 13:43 and I continue to strive to improve.

I am not inherently a competitive person and my apparent lack of athletic talent for team sports is no secret, but what I do love is the strategy to improve my sports performance and compete against myself.

My goal as an RDN is to help others improve their sports performance as well. Sports performance is not limited to elite athletes - just consider how competitive youth sports have become! I am happy to work with athletes of all ages and abilities who do:

  • Recreational exercise

  • Baseball

  • Basketball

  • Cheerleading

  • CrossFit

  • Dance

  • Endurance running

  • Football

  • Golf

  • Gymnastics

  • Marching band

  • Soccer

  • Strength training

  • Swimming

  • Tennis

Proper nutrition is a game changer no matter your age or nutritional goals. I also have a lot of experience with little people -- my children range from five to twelve years old and range from a picky eater on the autism spectrum to an aspiring chef. Wherever you are in your journey I can help you...

  • Fuel your body for performance

  • Recover faster

  • Properly hydrate

  • Evaluate vitamins and supplements

  • Manage weight

  • Meal plan

  • Feed your little people nutritious foods

  • Navigate diet trends

  • Clarify confusing media messages

  • And much more!

There is a difference between fueling your body for peak performance and nourishing your body for optimal health. I am here to help define that difference and achieve all of your health and wellness goals.

I want to help you navigate your journey to a healthy lifestyle!
